Le nom est porté dans un secteur allant des Pyrénées-Orientales à la Haute-Garonne. C'est un dérivé du verbe occitan rascanhar (= égratigner), qui devrait désigner un lieu où abondent les ronces. Variantes : Rascagnières, Rascanières, Rasquanières (portées le plus souvent dans l'Aude).
